Altimeter 09/04/2012
I recently obtained a StratoLogger SL100 from PerfectFlight. http://www.perfectflite.com/sl100.html Because this altimeter came with two outputs for recovery I started to design a new recovery system. This new recovery system would use the two outputs to first deploy a parachut at apogee the the second would open the parachute at a preset altitude. More on this in the Parachutes page. The recovery system would also be made as aerodynamic as possible. Knowing that the most aerodynamic shape for subsonic flight was the Elipsoid with a length 2x its width, I put the values into this 125-nosecones excel spreadsheet. Add Comment Nozzle Experiments 03/03/2012
Due to a new launcher, I've been experimenting with restriced nozzles. The first set of tests were of a 12mm and a 6mm nozzle, as in the video below. Further experiments into Cavitation and air/water mixing Soon! Slow Progress 03/01/2012
Due to large bottles such as 2.25L's being too weak to splice, there has been little development since the Ascender-1. Here's the Ascender-1 with a friends rocket with onboard footage. Rocketfest XV 28/11/2011

Pressure Testing Stand 14/09/2011
Today I was testing some bottle splices before I continued the construction of my latest rocket. I used this opotunity to show my testing stand. Making a stand makes pressure testing rockets easy and safe. Click here for more infomation. Australian Flag Parachute 04/07/2011
After pulling apart an Australian Flag, I sowed around the edge for streangth and to stop freying. Then I sowed 8 cotton strings to it then made sure the outer strings were further away then the inner strings to keep the parachute as rectangular as possible. No hole was needed for a stable decent because the flag was small and porous, containing lots of small holes. It worked out quite well but was a bit difficult to see from 100 or so metres below it. Rockets and Trees 21/03/2011
Trees, the arch enemy of the model rocket. Hopfully this story can help if your rocket ever gets stuch in a tree. This weekend I had got my Vontex rocket stuck 10m up in a tree. After many attempts to shoot it out someone had tied a weight to a long rope. after throwing the weight over the branch, both ends were grabed. Finnaly the rocket was shaken free! Welcome! 16/03/2011
Its Finnaly Here! A site to explain the advancements that Me, My Family and Friends have made to my hobbie Because this website has recently been published, there will be many modifications to bring this site up to date. To Christen the blog heres a link to some Excel Spreadsheets I made for highspeed analasis and graphing of a rockets thrust phase. I'll have some more to post soon, I hope this site is helpful! |
